Olivia Lapeyrolerie, a mayoral spokesperson working on his campaign, confirmed his appearance will be around 8:10 a.m.

In the evening, he will depart to Iowa and on Friday, he is expected to speak at the Woodbury County Democratic Party's Truman Club in Sioux City. Over the weekend, he will travel to South Carolina.

The news was broken on Twitter by a high school student, Gabe Fleisher, who wrote Wednesday afternoon:

"New York City Mayor @BilldeBlasio to headline an event in Sioux City, Iowa, on Friday, which the local Democratic Party is calling the 'first stop on his Presidential announcement tour.'"

The initial online announcement of the event misspelled the mayor's name as "di Blasio," but has since been corrected.
